Qingguo tunnel
Jiangsu, Changzhou
Qingguo Lane, formerly known as "Qianguo Lane", is one of the ancient streets and alleys in Changzhou. It was built before the ninth year of the Ming Wanli era (1581) and is known as the "Number One Lane for Famous Scholars in Jiangnan". Qingguo Lane is located in the central southern part of Changzhou’s old city area, adjacent to the ancient canal to the south, starting from Zhengsu Lane to Jinling Middle Road to the west, leading directly to the commercial center of South Street, and ending at Gucun to the north. The entire block is about 400 meters long from east to west and 200 meters long from north to south, covering an area of approximately 8.7 hectares.
The Qingguo Lane block is mainly composed of buildings from the Ming, Qing, and Republic of China periods. It has one World Cultural Heritage site, three national key cultural heritage sites, five provincial key cultural heritage sites, six municipal key cultural heritage sites, and 39 general immovable cultural relics. Famous residences, ancestral temples, bridges, archways, stone tablets, Lin Quan Xuan Xie, ancient well docks, theater buildings, and school buildings are distributed throughout Changzhou, which is a "living fossil" of Changzhou’s national historical and cultural city. It presents the street style of "the river runs north and south, the street runs west and east" and the Jiangnan charm of "ancient alleys lead to secluded places, and families rest on the river". In 2014, the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province declared Qingguo Lane as a historical and cultural district.
